Digital Literacy & Me

My first Podcast (setup).

Optional explorations:

Reflection:

This was not an easy assignment for me. I'm not much for podcasts. Most everything I know about them come from my son's Minecraft videos and are probably not things that should be replicated.

Perhaps the hardest part was developing an approach. I'm still not entirely sure I've hit the mark on content and a definitive podcast style is only really developed over time. I wrestled with different approaches to delivery: off the cuff; rough outline; scripted. With so many new elements at play, I opted to play it safe.

Over that hurdle I thought I had some ideas to to create an aural landscape. Being digitally literate I soon realized the sounds I wanted would not really be covered under fair use. So I went to plan B and obtained backing sound from either GarageBand or freesounds.org.

The actual production went alright. I am amazed at how far we've come and what we are able to do using the most ubiquitous of equipment (a cell phone and earbuds). My podcast isn't professional grade technically, but is of a reasonable calibre and that, to me, is kind of mind-blowing given the setup I used.

  1. You should give yourself some credit, Mark! You say you're a podcast novice, but I think it's a pretty slick production.
